JEDDAH: The secretary-general of the King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID), Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, on Saturday lauded King Salman’s efforts in establishing global centers against extremism and terrorism.
“The lack of coordination in the combat of terrorism has fueled the rise of extremists, who brought many areas in the world into violent conflict in the name of religion and politics,” bin Muammar said while attending the 30th International Summit on Religion in Kyoto, Japan.
In his speech titled “The role of clergymen and religious institutions in supporting policymakers to combat extremism and terrorism,” he said dialogue and understanding are key to building knowledge and trust between religions and cultures.
He stressed the need to support individuals, institutions and clergymen to reinforce efforts against terrorism and hatred.
All religions are based on mercy, forgiveness and respect of the other, said bin Muammar, who stressed the need to find comprehensive and sustainable solutions.
He gave a presentation on the activities of KAICIID, an international organization established by Saudi Arabia in 2012 with participation from Austria, Spain, the Vatican, and a board of nine religious leaders representing the world’s major faiths and cultures.
